WMG - ASSISTANT, A&R

COVER LETTER - CAROLYN MOORE

HEY WARNER MUSIC GROUP!

I’m sure you weren’t expecting a sneaky Cover Letter for this position in my Writing Portfolio. I felt compelled to include this as this position is my dream job, and I’ve got to stand out in some way.  Feel free to explore the rest of this portfolio - I’d love any critical feedback you might have on my writing (feel free to send it to carolyncmoore14@gmail.com).  But first things first, below is why I’d be the best Assistant to A&R in WMG history.

I am a self-motivated and progress-driven individual with two years of professional experience, most recently as an Account Manager within the IT services space.  I graduated Cum Laude from Wake Forest University in 2018 and was promoted within 9 months of my first job out of college.  Although I am new to the music industry, I just moved to Los Angeles to follow my dreams of being a part of it.   I am lucky to be surrounded by musicians and songwriters in my life, and nothing brings me more joy than helping them succeed.  In my current life, that has consisted of booking gigs for my best friend’s band around Denver (pre-Covid) or just sitting down with my friends and giving support and feedback when they’re writing.  Also importantly, my top genres are R&B, hip-hop and pop - I’m always looking for new artists and sounds to make playlists for my friends (which is, I’ve discovered, one of my love languages).  To be involved in A&R in any capacity where I’d be supporting and connecting artists, songwriters, producers, etc. is my dream.  I hope to outline here that my previous experience combined with my passion for music makes me a great candidate for the behind-the-scenes/ detail-oriented/ good-under-pressure all-star that you’re seeking.

After graduating from Wake with a degree in Psychology and Writing, I took a job as a recruiter in Denver, CO. Though IT staffing was certainly not something I was passionate about, I worked hard everyday in this role - making 50+ customer service and recruiting calls per day, completing onboarding paperwork for new hires, using all the Microsoft Suites and Google Apps on a day-to-day basis to track data and keep organized. I was promoted to an Account Manager early on because of my work ethic, sense of urgency and general “likeability,” as I was being put into Sales.

In this new role, I built my business from scratch - sourced leads to find prospective clients, built strong relationships, and formed exclusive partnerships that hadn't existed before.  I dived deep into an industry I hadn't yet been exposed to before (IT) and became the go-to AM for my clients because they knew I would deliver. I anticipated my clients’ needs by staying extremely organized and consistent with my follow-up.  I dealt with a wide variety of personalities insofar as my clientele - some difficult, some with unrealistic expectations, some with a chip on their shoulder.  Though this challenged me - this was honestly the part of the job that I enjoyed most. My ability to network and connect with people is probably my biggest strength. I am a combination of warm, intuitive and professional - I am a natural networker who thrives off of the energy of the people around me.

A few other relevant notes about me - I worked as a research assistant for years in school - I am thorough and precise as it pertains to dealing with data, financial figures, etc. I am generally an incredibly hard worker and critical thinker who does not shy away from a challenge.  I am an astute problem-solver capable of prioritizing and managing complex projects with proficiency.  I think I'd be an incredible value add to your team at WMG.

I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you regarding my candidacy for assistant opportunity. I am looking forward to your response and thank you for your consideration.

Best,

Carolyn Moore
